Islamic Family Laws**THE EFFORT HAS JUST BEGUN... please continue to support this petition** Keep collecting signatures for the petition and writing your letters because the story is far from over! You may have heard by now that the Cabinet has put on hold the gazetting of the IFL Act (FT). While this is good news for women in the FTs, women in the 12 other states continue to be subjected to these amendments, which were made to their respective Islamic family laws over the last few years. Also, women throughout the country continue to face hardship and injustice due to many other discriminatory sections in the rest of the Islamic Family Laws. The passion, commitment, support and action of many Malaysians created the significant and historic Cabinet decision. So, let us keep this momentum going because this is only just the beginning. We need to ensure that the government hears our collective demands for a Muslim Family Law that is truly just.

Warm greetings from Sisters in Islam. We wish to thank you for your constant support and for playing a big role in the IFL campaign! The campaign would not have gone this far without your active involvement.
Some of you had attended our talks on IFL, but some of you may not have been able to attend and thus may not have a clear picture on this issue.
We wish to inform that SIS is conducting a session this Saturday (21 Jan) to give a briefing on the IFL, and to share some of the works done in this campaign.
Our legal officer, Razlina, will give a briefing on :
- the trends of the IFL such as the 1994 amendments and fatwa on EPF
- the amended laws and its impacts
Our campaign officer, Shanon, will brief on :
- the IFL campaign : what has been done so far
what worked
what still need to be done.
We hope you could come and share with us any ideas you might have and to see how we could further our involvement in ensuring the success of this campaign.

Two events related to the new Islamic Family Law Bill 2005
This website should undergo a revamp. It is in a list of things that I should look into (: Some articles will slowly disappear from view as the site matures together with its owner. While out and out changes will not be done for at least the first half of this year, minor changes are in the works. Since this is a labour of love and I have other commitments, please bear with the snail pace. Slowly updating the copyright dates as I access each page. What this site needs is a revamp of its engine. And that requires funding. Any funders out there? (:
In the meantime, I have put up a short notice in my
resume and also added a new
article.
